Citizenship, twenty-one years of age, a recognised law degree, and the prescribed enrolment fee and conditions (including the All India Bar Examination under BCI rules).

Every advocate on the State roll is entitled as of right to practise in all courts, tribunals and before any authority in India (brought into force 15 June 2011).
A State Bar Council may refer a complaint of professional or other misconduct to its disciplinary committee, which may dismiss, reprimand, suspend, or remove the advocate from the roll.
