Licence for acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition
No person shall acquire, have in possession or carry any firearm or ammunition unless holding a licence; a person may hold up to two firearms (post-2019).

Using a firearm in contravention of s. 5 — three to seven years; using a prohibited arm — seven years to life; using a prohibited arm resulting in death — life imprisonment or death (as read down in Dalbir Singh, 2012).
No prosecution shall be instituted against any person in respect of an offence under s. 3 without the previous sanction of the District Magistrate.
