An appeal or application may be admitted after the prescribed period if the appellant or applicant satisfies the court that he had sufficient cause for not preferring it within that period.
In computing the period of limitation, the time during which the plaintiff has been prosecuting with due diligence another civil proceeding founded on the same cause of action in a court unable to entertain it for defect of jurisdiction shall be excluded.
Where, before the expiration of the prescribed period, an acknowledgment of liability in respect of the property or right has been made in writing signed by the party against whom the right is claimed, a fresh period of limitation shall be computed from the time when the acknowledgment was so signed.
Where part payment of a debt or of interest is made before the expiration of the prescribed period by the person liable, a fresh period of limitation shall be computed from the time when the payment was made.
