Time of payment of wages

Wages to be paid before the seventh day (establishments under 1,000 persons) or tenth day after the last day of the wage period; on termination, within two working days.

Deductions which may be made from wages

Only the deductions authorised by the Act — fines, absence from duty, damage or loss, house accommodation, amenities, advances, loans, income tax, court orders, PF, cooperative society dues — and the total is capped.

Payment of Wages Act · 15

Claims arising out of deductions from wages or delay in payment

Application to the Authority within twelve months; the Authority may direct refund of the deduction or payment of delayed wages together with compensation of up to ten times the deduction or ₹3,000 for delay.
